The hopeful but heartbreaking search has come to an end: on May 11, the body of the 17-year-old boy who disappeared without a trace on May 3 was found in the waters of the Tisza River near Tiszadada.
That evening, the young boy went to the outskirts of Taktakenéz in his car and then mysteriously disappeared. He was last seen near the Prügy embankment, wearing a red T-shirt and black shorts, in the dense, wooded area of the Tisza floodplain. Concern grew from the first day, as he did not show any signs of life. The search began immediately – and in the end, the worst fears came true.
Community cooperation, with unprecedented perseverance
Before the young man left, he arranged to meet his friend to return home together – but the boy never arrived. After his disappearance, an unprecedented cooperation began. The search was launched with the coordination of the Taktabaj residents, the local police, and Mayor János Rézműves.
The search was later joined by:
the Neptun Diving Club and Rescue Team (with 10 people, dogs, quad, motorbike),
the Dogs for Life Foundation (with volunteers and additional search dogs),
as well as the police and disaster management.
The teams searched the forested, floodplain areas along the Tisza River day and night – but the boy’s trail was not found for a long time.
The search dog led the team on the trail
On May 9, another hope arrived: the ECHO Search and Rescue rescue team arrived. Their search dog named Faith picked up a scent at the mouth of the Prügyi main canal, on the Tisza.
Then, the MOHOSZ fish guards provided a boat for further search. Faith signaled again at one point, which was confirmed by sonar – there must have been a body underwater, at a depth of about 3–3.5 meters.
The disaster management team tried to lift the deceased, but the current of the river swept the body away.
The uncertainty ended on May 11
Two days later, on May 11, Faith and her owner, József Losonczi, finally received another signal – this time near Tiszadada, about 4–5 kilometers from the original search location. The body was found and identified: it was the 17-year-old boy they were looking for.
More than a search – humanity and cooperation
This case showed not only a tragic fate, but also the strength of a community. Everyone hoped until the last day, even when the chances were getting smaller and smaller.
The police are continuing to investigate the circumstances. So far, no evidence of a crime has emerged in connection with the case, but an official report is expected later.
