I saw something strange on the floor at home and wanted to touch it, but suddenly it started moving: I was horrified when I realized what it was. 😱

I spotted something strange on the floor of my house, and for a moment, I couldn’t even tell what it was. It lay completely still, like a bright green fragment of a plant, maybe a broken stem from one of my houseplants… or perhaps a child’s toy that had fallen from the table. 🤔

I stood over it, trying to figure out what it could be. Its shape was unnaturally smooth, its color too vivid, and those “horns” on either side looked almost plastic.

But as I leaned in just a little closer… the “thing” suddenly trembled. 😲 I froze. And then, without warning, it moved, slowly crawling across the floor.

I nearly screamed in terror. The creature looked so bizarre, as if it had flown straight out of an Alien movie. 😲 It crept forward deliberately, while dark spines sprouted from its body—long, thin, as though they were silently warning: “Do not touch me.”

When I finally discovered what it really was, I was utterly horrified. Luckily, nothing happened to me. 😱

Later, I learned it was a saddle-necked caterpillar. I consider myself incredibly lucky: if I had picked it up in those first few seconds, as I had initially intended, things could have ended very badly.

Its spines contain venom, injected into the skin at the slightest touch. People experience intense pain, redness, swelling, blisters, and sometimes dizziness, nausea, or numbness.

Many end up in the hospital after contact, because the pain is almost unbearable. I sat and read about it, a chill running down my spine. One wrong move, and I could have been lying there with a swollen hand…

So what should you do if you accidentally touch one?

First, carefully remove the spines with tape. Then wash the area thoroughly with soap and water, apply ice, and if the reaction is severe, take an antihistamine and consult a doctor.

I carefully guided the caterpillar into a jar with a broom and carried it far away into the garden. Let it live—but not in my house. Since that day, whenever I see something unusual on the floor, I pause and think twice before touching it.
