After Alicia noticed that her little son was more and more often exhausted and restless, she decided she had to act. Something wasn’t right. She placed a baby monitor in the nursery so she could keep an eye on him even at night.
However, what she saw not long after deeply shook her. A quick, barely noticeable movement appeared on the screen — so sudden that little Edduin flinched from it.
— Darling, it’s okay… everything will be fine — Alicia whispered as she took the trembling baby into her arms and tried to calm him.
The baby cried for several more minutes after waking in the middle of the night. Alicia finally sat down on the couch, began rocking Edduin, and softly hummed a lullaby to him.
Meanwhile, she placed her laptop and all the paperwork she needed for work on the table — fatigue and responsibility weighing on her at the same time.
In the first ten minutes, it seemed like nothing would help. The crying didn’t stop. But slowly, almost imperceptibly, Edduin calmed down, his breathing became steady, and eventually he fell asleep. Alicia let out a quiet sigh of relief.
She carefully placed him back into the crib, gently kissed his forehead, then quietly closed the door so as not to wake him. After that, she returned to the living room, where work was waiting.
“How am I going to handle this alone? John… I wish you were here. I miss you so much…” she thought as she walked into the kitchen to make herself a cup of coffee.
Alicia Silvers and her husband, John, once dreamed of traveling the world after doctors told them they likely couldn’t have children. So they took that chance.
Magnificent fjords in Bergen, lively restaurants and casinos in Las Vegas, sunny, peaceful beaches in Honolulu, and breathtaking performances at the Sydney Opera House — their life was full of experiences and adventure.
But when Alicia unexpectedly became pregnant, everything changed. They were planning a trip to the Bahamas when they found out.
Their happiness was boundless. They returned to their hometown of Fayetteville, North Carolina, to share the joyful news with friends and neighbors.
Both of them had grown up as orphans in foster care. John later became the CEO of a company that manufactured entertainment electronics components, while Alicia focused on family life.
They had everything they had ever dreamed of: love, security, a beautiful home… and now the joy of becoming parents.
But that happiness lasted only a short time.
On one dark night, Alicia’s life fell apart.
— Hello? Is this Alicia Silvers? — Ma’am, this is Officer Duncan… I regret to inform you that there has been a serious accident on the Farm Road highway. Your husband… lost his life.

Alicia could barely comprehend the words.
That morning, John had told her he needed to go on a business trip. Alicia had a bad feeling and asked him not to go, but he reassured her that everything would be fine.
She was already seven months pregnant at the time.
That was the last time she saw him.
The news was such a shock that Alicia’s body reacted almost immediately. Labor pains began. Fortunately, she had enough strength to call her neighbor, Mrs. Hall, who quickly came over and called emergency services.
Not long after, Edduin was born.
Since he was premature, he had to stay for a while in the neonatal intensive care unit. When they were finally able to go home, Alicia was left alone — with a newborn and a business.
She took over John’s company and started working to support her son. Her business degree helped a lot, but reality was still difficult.
Edduin required constant attention. He was small and fragile, and Alicia often felt like she was being pulled between two worlds.
John’s secretary, Madison, helped a great deal. She suggested that Alicia work from home and helped her create a workable system.
Alicia could have hired a nanny, but she chose not to. She felt that her son was more important than anything.
And so nearly a year passed.
And Alicia had no idea that something new and unexplainable was about to enter her life.
One night, after putting Edduin to bed, she heard a strange noise coming from the room. When she opened the door, the baby was laughing.
Someone was in the room.
Alicia’s heart pounded. She looked around — under the bed, in the closet, in the bathroom — but found no one.
Yet the room felt… different. Unnaturally quiet.
These incidents became more frequent.
Edduin would sometimes wake suddenly, laugh, or just stare into nothing.
Finally, Alicia decided she wouldn’t ignore it anymore. She installed a Wi-Fi baby monitor and began watching the room live.
At first, everything seemed normal.
Then… after about ten minutes, Edduin smiled.
And something moved beside him.
Alicia practically jumped up and rushed toward the nursery. With trembling hands, she opened the door, fearing the worst.
But what she saw was nothing she had expected.
A small, dirty, trembling puppy was hiding beside the crib.
When Alicia entered, the little dog quickly hid, but it was too late — Edduin was laughing and clearly happy to see it.
That’s when everything made sense.
The old dog gate by the back entrance — left over from Doblo, their former dog — had simply been forgotten and left open.
The little newcomer had somehow gotten in and had been playing with Edduin every night… which was why the baby couldn’t sleep properly.
Alicia bent down and picked up the trembling little animal.
It was thin, dirty, and clearly in need of help.
Her heart softened.
She couldn’t leave it behind.
She decided to take it in.
The puppy was named Casper.
And although at first he caused sleepless nights, in the end he brought peace back into the house.
Edduin is now a much happier baby — he cries less and sleeps better.
And Alicia makes sure that playtime and rest stay in balance.
Sometimes the greatest fears don’t hide danger… but a new beginning.
