An ordinary working day at the headquarters of KedarSoft turned into complete chaos within seconds.
In the meeting room, discussions were underway about confidential development plans, patent documentation, and preparations for the upcoming investor presentation when Tamara Boriszovna,
Nina’s mother-in-law, suddenly lost her temper. In the heat of the argument, she grabbed Nina’s work laptop and slammed it with full force against the edge of the conference table.
The computer fell to the floor, its casing cracked, the screen flickered briefly, then went completely dark.
Everyone was stunned by the scene, but the greatest disappointment was not the damaged device itself. Arthur, Nina’s husband and the company’s deputy director, stood completely motionless.
He did not try to stop his mother, did not question her actions, and even began to defend her, as if it had been nothing more than a trivial family dispute.
It later turned out that Tamara Boriszovna had only been able to enter the strictly protected corporate area with his authorization.
Nina immediately recognized that what had happened went far beyond a family conflict.
The real issue was not the broken laptop, but the serious breach of corporate security rules, which endangered confidential development data and years of work.
Instead of reacting emotionally, she immediately switched into leadership mode. In a calm voice,
she notified security, the company’s legal department, and the technical director, and then called an emergency board meeting. With a single instruction, she suspended Arthur’s access to all company systems and ordered a formal internal investigation.
Security specialists began reconstructing the events within minutes. Access logs quickly revealed that Arthur had personally issued a guest pass for his mother, and had also illegally used a previously missing access card issued in Nina’s name.
IT logs also showed that shortly before the incident, Arthur had repeatedly attempted to access the company’s most strictly protected development and patent materials.
Although the authorization system automatically blocked every attempt, the log files clearly proved a deliberate effort to bypass security protocols.

At the extraordinary board meeting, the company lawyer presented the conditions of Arthur’s stock option agreement in detail.
Although he had long behaved in front of colleagues as if he were one of the owners, in reality he had never held any equity. He only had a conditional right to acquire an 18% share after five years of flawless employment.
However, the contract clearly stated that if he intentionally harmed the company, violated security rules, or endangered corporate interests, he would automatically lose this entitlement.
Based on the evidence, the board unanimously reached a decision. Arthur was immediately suspended, all his access rights were revoked, he was excluded from the stock option program,
his future right to the 18% share was terminated, and legal proceedings were initiated to recover damages caused to the company.
External lawyers were also appointed to handle the case.
Arthur was then confronted with the realization that the future he had considered certain for years had collapsed in a single morning.
He desperately tried to frame the situation as a simple family dispute, insisting that marriage and company matters should not be mixed.
Nina, however, firmly reminded him that in the office they were not husband and wife, but a CEO and a manager who had violated corporate rules.
The employees also openly supported Nina, emphasizing that she had built the company from the ground up, secured its first clients, financed its early years, and led it to success.
Tamara Boriszovna continued to defend herself by claiming she was only acting as a mother trying to protect her son, and failed to understand why breaking a laptop was being treated as a serious offense.
However, the legal department made it clear that this was not a family matter. She had unlawfully entered a secured corporate area and damaged company property, and therefore a separate compensation procedure was initiated against her as well.
The next day, Arthur appeared again at the company headquarters as if nothing had happened. But when he tried his access card at the entrance, the system flashed red every time.
The receptionist politely informed him that all his access rights had been revoked. Arthur then tried to plead with Nina. He offered to buy a new laptop, apologized, and asked her to settle the matter privately within the family. Nina, however, made it clear that from that point on, all communication would go through legal representatives only, as the company’s interests took priority over all personal relationships.
Arthur eventually returned both of his access cards, including the one he had been unlawfully keeping for months. By placing them on the reception counter, he symbolically lost all the authority and influence he had believed he held over the past years.
While the personal conflict deepened, the company’s operations continued without disruption.
Thanks to backups, all development data was fully restored, new encryption keys were generated, all access tokens were replaced, and the investor presentation was successfully delivered.
The development team proved that the company’s strength did not depend on a single individual, but on collective professional expertise.
Nina then completely separated corporate and personal matters. She initiated divorce proceedings while handling the business dispute strictly within legal and corporate frameworks.
The access policy was reviewed, leadership exceptions were removed, IT security rules were tightened, and a comprehensive executive access audit was launched to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Arthur later sent long messages accusing Nina of taking everything from him: his career, his future, and his family. But Nina now clearly understood the truth. She had not deprived him of his opportunities.
Arthur had lost his trust, his leadership position, and his chance at ownership the moment he believed that professional achievement could be replaced by family influence, pressure, and disregard for corporate rules.
By the end of the story, KedarSoft had become a stronger and more structured company than ever before. Its operations were no longer guided by family ties, personal favors, or informal exceptions, but by transparent rules, accountability, and professional decision-making.
For Nina, this painful chain of events ultimately marked not only the end of a marriage, but also the realization that a company and a personal life can only remain healthy if there is always a clear and consistent boundary between them.
