Six years earlier, Patrick lost his twin sister Lily in a tragic accident that forever changed his life. The two siblings had always been inseparable from the moment they were born,
which is why Patrick was never able to overcome the moment when he let go of his sister’s hand for only a second near the pond, and Lily disappeared into the water. Although everyone believed it was a terrible accident, Patrick blamed himself for the rest of his life.

The girl in the photograph did not have Lily’s distinctive birthmark, a mark the family had always known and remembered. Patrick was devastated because he realized he might lose the person he had already mourned once again.
With the help of the police, they discovered that the entire story had been created by Vince, an old family acquaintance. Vince knew about Patrick’s guilt, the sunflower tradition, and the family’s pain,
so he believed he could easily manipulate them. He used a girl named Emily to deceive them and convinced her to take a photograph that would make her resemble Lily.
During the investigation, they discovered that Vince knew nothing about Lily’s real fate and had only used the hope of a grieving family to obtain money. The police arrested him, and the truth behind the cruel deception was finally revealed.
For Patrick, however, the experience became an important turning point in his life. He realized that for years he had not only carried the pain of losing Lily but had also punished himself for an accident that was never truly his fault.
Instead of continuing to live trapped in the past, he slowly learned to accept his loss while keeping his sister’s memory alive.
The family planted new sunflowers in the garden, and Emily also helped them repair the damage that had been done. Patrick created a small wooden sign for Lily that read: “For Lily. Always loved. Always with us.”
