Am I a bad mother for making my pregnant daughter leave home?
I’m so caught up in the many twists and turns of my story that I don’t know where to begin. When my daughter told me she was pregnant, I thought she was on the right track to college. My daughter did something so horrible that it made me stand back and confront the distraction.
Hello everyone. My name is Ellan, and this year my daughter Rose will be 19. I’d love to hear what you think about a slightly complicated story I’m about to tell you. My daughter, who is 15, has been in a relationship with Nathan, who is 20, for a year now.
Let me be honest: as a single parent who has been through a lot, I had my doubts about Nathan. But to my surprise, he turned out to be a good kid. I started to get to know him better and started to think of him as a son.
When I found out at that age that I didn’t want her to know something, I wasn’t particularly happy. “Mom, I have to tell you something, but you have to promise me you won’t get mad,” she told me one day when she came home.
Of course, I had heard this statement before and already had a contingency plan in place. I blamed myself for relaxing with her, while my imagination began to create all sorts of possible scenarios. In reality, I blamed myself for allowing myself to open up to her.
I’m not sure how, but I had a faint feeling that she had something that my daughter wanted to share.

But I tried not to show my restraint on my face, trying to be a good mother. “What’s wrong, honey?” “You know you can tell me anything,” I said calmly. She took a deep breath and said hesitantly.
“I’m pregnant with Nathan.” “You’re going to be a grandmother.”
I was really surprised! For some reason, I hadn’t considered that possibility. And after all, Rose is still a child and is about to become a mother. A surge of disappointment washed over me as I thought about how her life was going to change dramatically.
I imagined myself managing everything she had to deal with now that she had to postpone her studies.
I was worried that because of her and Nathan’s plans, she might drop out of school altogether. Seeing the fear in my eyes, my daughter comforted me.
«I understand that you wanted me to focus on my future, but Nathan and this child have a big role in that.»
He assured me that everything would be fine. I was filled with joy, realizing that I would soon be a grandmother. I stood up and congratulated them, hugging them. Then Rose walked away and said,
“Well, I have another surprise for you.”
This time she held out her left hand, and on her finger was a ring.
“When he asked me to marry him, I said yes.” In that moment, as tears flowed, I saw how much Nathan cared about my daughter and her future. I was happy for my new bride.
Although I was hesitant, I couldn’t help but be happy for the days that followed. Her wedding and the birth of my first grandchild were two reasons to celebrate. I let them live in my home because I was so involved in their lives.
Nathan began to build a strong foundation for his new family.
The happy couple even had a special room in my house for the nursery. We had a wonderful time decorating it together. But one fateful afternoon, life in my humble and usually quiet home took a dramatic turn.
I returned home earlier than usual, laden with very cheap purchases from the local supermarket. I bought things to prepare for my grandson’s arrival. But I had no idea that the peace of the day would be shattered before my eyes.
I walked briskly into the kitchen, greeted only by Rose. She was only in her pretty underwear. Her surprised gaze synchronized with my rapid heartbeat, which seemed to sense a problem before I did.
«Mom, why are you back so early?» Rose’s voice trembled as she sang.
«Honey, who are you talking to?» echoed from the hallway before I could respond to the deep and unfamiliar voice. The intimacy of the conversation made me feel uneasy, my stomach churning as I realized it wasn’t Nathan.
Rose was holding two steaming cups of coffee in her hands, and I finally noticed and let the diapers and other items fall. My hands are still shaking from everything I saw that day.
“I thought I’d surprise you with this,” I shouted, pointing to the commotion at my feet. But it was obvious that I was the one who was surprised. My heart pounding, I walked toward the voice, ignoring Rose’s pleas. “Mom, please let me explain.”
Without listening to her, I opened the door to the room and saw a man I didn’t recognize, covered in the sheet Nathan’s mother had given him.
“Rose, what’s going on here?” I demanded in a cold voice, demanding an answer that hung heavy in the air. The man stood up and tried to look dignified, which only angered me more.

“Oh my God, ma’am. I didn’t know…” he began, his eyes blinking anxiously.
“Go away.” I cut him off sternly. Without hesitation, he pulled away from me in a spirit of repentance.
Rose was crying now, the old woman
her debt had to be paid. “Mom, please, you have to listen to me.” It’s not what you think.”
But I was too shocked to see that behind the betrayal was a reality that I should have begun to understand by now. The quotes from other mothers brought the pain back to the center of my heart. Our house was under construction, and the arrival of a little baby would change everything for all of us.
Slowly, the memories of the love and joy between Rose and Nathan began to crumble, as did the expectations I had for my new grandchild. With the weight of disappointment in my heart, I decided to do the right thing, even if it meant leaving my daughter.
“This can’t be.” I am not a bad mother. I will become stronger than ever, and I will build a new life. I cried out loudly.
